Making a Difference: Adam Klauber |
Making a Difference: Klauber, Hurtig and Shields Fundraise for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Former Practice Builder participant Adam Klauber, from Klauber, Hurtig and Shields, P.A. in Plantation, Florida, has been busy this past year putting what he learned in the October 2007 Practice Builder to work. Klauber transformed his practice’s annual holiday party from the ordinary to the extraordinary by turning it into a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In the month prior to the party, Klauber and his associates were able to secure ten prize packages donated for an auction to be held at the party. The party’s 450 guests were eager to bid on the prize packages, each valued between $700 and $1,200. The auction was extremely successful—the auction raised nearly $13,000!
During the party Adam Klauber had the chance to address the room and let the guests know why the cause was so special to him; he revealed that his three year old son Max has cystic fibrosis. Says Klauber, “For most of the people there, it was the first time they heard about that…the response was somewhat overwhelming. The response to this event was more than I anticipated and I think that’s because a lot of people were able to see us as regular, vulnerable human beings somewhat removed from the persona that, at times, is required to make us effective advocates.”
Klauber’s son Max was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in May of 2007. He is doing remarkably well and by all accounts is a normal, energetic little boy. However, as Klauber has said, “we have to be mindful of the reality that his condition will get worse unless a cure is found. We are, like it or not, in a race against time.” For Adam Klauber and his wife Debbie, just hoping for a cure is not enough. So, they are taking the initiative.
Inspired by the $13,000 success of their holiday party and determined to make a difference, Klauber is gearing up for another fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. On April 5, 2008, Klauber, along with his family, friends and co-workers, will be suiting up for the CFF’s GREAT STRIDES 5k walk/run. The Great Strides walk helps the foundation make “great strides” toward finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
